Why our acrylic doesn't smell — and why that matters.
If a salon's acrylic smells like nail-polish remover from twenty feet away, that's MMA — methyl methacrylate — banned by Texas TDLR for nail services for decades. Here's what we use, why we use it, and how to spot the difference at any salon in Katy.
Chemistry
EMA, not MMA
We use EMA-based Solar acrylic — the legal, gentler chemistry. EMA cures slower (which is why our sets take 60–90 minutes) and bonds without bleaching the natural nail. MMA cures fast and cheap but is banned for a reason: it bonds so hard the natural nail comes off with the set.
Apex placement
Where the strength actually lives
An acrylic set that breaks one nail a week has the apex in the wrong spot — too thin at the stress zone, too thick at the tip. We sculpt with an apex two-thirds back from the free edge. Our Cinco Ranch real-estate agents and Cane Island gardeners go a full 3 weeks without a break.
Refill cadence
Every 2–3 weeks — not 'when it lifts'
Lift starts before you can see it. Refill at 2 weeks if you're hard on hands; 3 weeks for office work. We log your last visit on the chart so we'll tell you when to come back — most clients book the next refill before they leave the chair.
